Do AFX exchange students under 18 years old travel to France in groups?
- Yes, AFX organises for the students to travel to France in groups. Each group is accompanied by at least one adult representative of AFX. Once arriving in France a member of the AFX team is waiting for you along with your host family.
With which airlines do the AFX groups fly?
- AFX is very careful on the choice of the airline the candidates travel on. For this reason we only book flights with the large and reliable carriers whose service we can depend upon. We work closely with our travel agency in order to get the most up-to-date information on airlines and the best prices for our clients.
Could I see some references from past customers about their experience with AFX?
- Yes, we are able to provide you with the thoughts and contact details of some families who have taken part in one of our programs.
Will I get my own bedroom?
- Yes. The only exception to this is if your hosting family takes you on holidays. In this case you might have to share a room with your host correspondent and his/her siblings.
Are host families paid by AFX?
- AFX does not pay host families for our most popular program, the reciprocal exchange program. For Australian families who host a French student but do not send their own children on an exchange to France, in certain cases, families may be reimbursed for extra expenses incurred as a result of hosting a student. Please contact the AFX office for further details.
Why does AFX have such competitive fees for its exchanges?
- AFX is a small family business that aims to remain small in order to ensure the quality of its programs. We do all the work ourselves, and do not pay fees to agents. Our Reciprocal Program is particularly affordable due to the fact that both Australian and French families are hosting the candidate for the same amount of time, and the candidate is treated as a member of the family in every sense, so there are no extra or hidden costs.
How does AFX choose the families and students to be involved in its programs?
- Every Australian and French family is visited by a member of the AFX team. Each interview, organised in the family home, is the opportunity to meet the family members, to ensure that the family is ready to host an overseas student, and that the student will be hosted in good conditions. In this interview the AFX team member also helps the student determine whether they are ready to go on an exchange themselves.
How does AFX match students for its exchange programs?
- Matches are made based on a lot of criteria such as age, gender, common interest and hobbies, and compatible lifestyles within the host families. The reason our matches are so successful is that our team takes the time to meet and get to know every candidate and understands both cultures and countries. We then apply this knowledge to guarantee that we have a great match between both the exchange correspondent and the host family.
Will I go to class whilst at school with my exchange student?
Yes. Each Australian candidate going on one of our programs is matched with an exchange student with who they will go to school, and this means attending class with them, which is an interesting and rewarding experience.
Is an AFX Student Exchange safe?
- Yes. AFX has an office in Paris and visits all the families, as well as requiring a police check from these families. We only select host families in safe areas and with children going to the best schools that we have dealt with before and are comfortable sending students to. As we are French we know the areas and different parts of the city and country very well.
Do I host the same student that I stayed with in an AFX Reciprocal Exchange Program?
- Yes. This is actually a very important part of our program. Our program aims to offer the participant the opportunity not only to go to France and learn about another culture and language, but also to meet a new friend.
What if there is a problem whilst I am on an AFX Student Exchange?
- As AFX has an office in Paris (half our company is based there), we are never too far away to help in any situation that can occur. This means that AFX can be contacted by the student, his/her family, or the hosting family at any time during the exchange, and we can help with the problem. AFX also insists that all students are fully insured with a very comprehensive insurance policy, meaning if anything goes wrong, participants are covered and are not liable for excessive expenses.
I have another question, how can I contact AFX?
- Easy, just go to our contact page here.
