This program offers students the opportunity to study fashion in Paris. AFX’s partner school offers a large range of courses in either Fashion Design or Management.

Depending on your experience and your French skills, you will be able to choose from the courses listed below:

Parisian Fashion Trip

  • Length of Program: 1 week

  • Dates: 26/11/11 to 3/12/11

  • English course

  • The aim of this program is not only to learn some of the techniques of design and pattern-making used by the French créateurs de mode in the best fashion school in Paris, but also to visit Paris and its fashion districts, and discover what makes French fashion unique. During the week, classes in fashion design, pattern making and embroidery will be conducted, and time will be spent discovering Paris' unique fashion with a series of tours of the city, including: guided tours of the fashion districts of Paris (Faubourg St Honoré, Avenue Montaigne, Rue St Honoré, le Marais, St Germain des Prés...); visits of artistic exhibitions (Musée de la Mode et du Textile, la Fondation Yves Saint Laurent...); a professional shopping tour including a guided visit of a concept store and a viewing of the collection of a grand couturier; and a guided tour of a designer's workshop in Paris. Participants will learn various fashion design techniques, including: learning to draw the fashion figurine; planning a personal mini-collection; learning pattern-making techniques; and an introduction to sewing.



Introductory Short Course in Fashion Design

  • Length of program: 1 week

  • All year around

  • This course provides a practical approach to fashion design, and gives a background of the history of today's fashion. Workshops on various aspects of fashion design are run by highly qualified teachers from the French artistic field, front line artists and designers, and allows students to learn about their capacities and their true interests, plus gives a guideline to help them reach their full potential.

  • Prerequisites: This course is open to all people over the age of 16



Millinery Workshop

  • Length of program: 1 week

  • All year around

  • Take advantage of the expertise of renowned milliners to discover an exceptional profession. During an intensive course, you will discover a real passion for one of the most beautiful accessories of fashion, from its creation to its manufacturing. Courses are available for Straw and Sisal hats, or for Felt hats.

  • Prerequisites: The course is open to all people over the age of 16.



Summer Session: from creating to managing

  • Length of program: 50 hours

  • All year around

  • This course allows students to discover the profession of designer and pattern maker while creating and going through the different steps of making a mini-collection of garments. The aim is to also give a better idea of careers in Fashion and Management in the luxury trade and their importance in the world economy.



French Fashion Design

  • Length of program: 1 year

  • Personalised bilingual course (taught in English and/or French)

  • A rare program of Design in Paris, the course is adapted to the profile of beginners or novices depending on their stylistic experience. This program allows foreign students to arouse their capacities in a city of unequaled heritage and fashion know-how. A made-to-measure program, essentially oriented to the design of clothes and accessories.

  • Prerequisites: High school certificate or equivalent. Previous training in fashion can also be taken into account.

Creator of Collection: styling, pattern-making, accessories (3 years)

  • Length of program: 3 years

  • French course

  • This course has a syllabus that associates both creativity and business. Preparing people to work in Fashion has to combine all the needs of an artistic career, without forgetting that they are craftsmen working for the fashion business world. The course includes creative workshops, theoretical courses, case studies, and meetings with professionals, thus introducing students to all facets of fashion related careers. The first year focuses on the basic needs to be a stylist, the second year on an immersion in the professional world, and the third year on creating one's own collection. Each year is completed with an internship in varied fields from sales to designing. This course is an excellent pathway to further studies in fashion.

  • Prerequisites: Baccalaureate or equivalent



Management – The Department of Fashion Business

  • Length of program: 3 years

  • French course

  • Today, a collection’s success is closely linked to sales growth techniques and to effective market positioning. With the growing diversity of fashion companies, hungry to impose their image and collections, new professions are emerging. The aim of this course is to train future executives in the textile, fashion and luxury sectors for positions such as product manager, director of marketing, merchandiser, director of import-export, national and international buyer, sales manager, and director of communication (press, trade and general public media). This course consists of a fashion module, a fashion languages module, a management module, and a marketing module. After the 3 year course, opportunities exist for further study in France or in a British university (e.g. Bachelor (Hons) in Fashion Management; D.U “Fashion, Luxury Products & Art of Living” program).
