Language Tutor Program

As an English tutor you will live with a French family and teach them English. This is a great program for people who want to experience life in France and the French culture in-depth. The program has a focus on cultural exchange and host families are not only excited to learn English, but also love to share the characteristics of their amazing country, culture and cuisine. Our tutoring program in France is designed for young adults/students aged 18 years and over.

Age Requirement: must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Program length: 1 to 3 months.

Location: All over France.

Program content: You will be hosted by a French family. The typical family can be a couple living with younger children. This program gives you the opportunity to share everyday life with a French family, discover France, and teach your mother tongue to people who are willing to learn English. Free time allows you to travel and experience the French culture.

It is also possible to do an intensive French course at the start of your placement. This is held in Paris and is a good chance to refresh your French language skills and spend time in this amazing city.

Accommodation and meals: You will stay in the host family's home in a private room. All of your meals are provided by the host family.

What is expected from you? The family will expect that you help them improve their English for 15 hours per week. We will provide you with some lesson structures, texts and ideas, but you can use your creativity too. Some of the things you can do are:

  • Help children with their English homework.

  • Watch and discuss a film in English.

  • Give a cooking lesson in English.

  • Play Monopoly, or another game in English.

The great thing about this program is its flexibility. You can organise your timetable with the host family, and the rest of the time is your own. This means you can take some French lessons, or visit some other parts of France in your spare time. Teaching experience is not required, however you will be expected to be a native English speaker, and behave appropriately as a guest in someones home. Some knowledge of French is recommended but not required.

Fees for 1 month programs :

  • Tutoring Program only = $899

  • 1 week language Course in Paris + 3 weeks Tutoring Program = $1943 which includes one week intensive language course (19h / week) + accommodation in a Parisian hotel (6 nights – from Sunday to Saturday - half-board and double room).

Fees for 2 month programs :

  • Tutoring Program only = $999

  • 2 week language Course in Paris + 6 weeks Tutoring Program = $2943 which includes two weeks intensive language course (19h/week) + accommodation in a Parisian hotel (13 nights – from Sunday to Saturday - half-board and double room).

Fees for 3 month programs :

  • Tutoring Program only = $1099

  • 2 week language Course in Paris + 10 weeks Tutoring Program = $3343 which includes two weeks intensive language course (19h/week) + accommodation in a Parisian hotel (13 nights – from Sunday to Saturday - half-board and double room).

Includes: Placement with a host family, support from AFX, accommodation and meals provided by family.

Does not include: Airfares, insurance, personal expenses and onward travel.


How to Apply:

In order to find a suitable host family please send the following information:

  • Go to the Apply Now section of our website to commence the application process.

  • A letter to the host family, explaining why the student would like to do the placement in France, a little bit about himself/herself, what he/she likes, enjoys etc. Please write a few lines in French if you have learnt French before.

  • 3 photos of yourself with family / friends + a description of these photos

  • A resume

  • A valid Police Check or equivalent

  • A letter of recommendation (reference) from a teacher

  • A photocopy of your passport or ID card

  • Statement of good health by a physician
